Hi, Zetas! I am the new ZTA delegate for the El Paso Alumnae Panhellenic Association and I would like to share some information with you. Out of the thousands of Zetas that have gone through our chapter, we only have 33 dues paying members in the El Paso ZTA Alumnae Chapter. This is detrimental to our future.

Our alumnae chapter dues are used to support the collegiate chapter in rush and recruitment efforts. A portion of the dues also goes to the ZTA Foundation, which helps to provide other sisters with scholarship opportunities, and more recently, to helping ZTA’s (collegians and alumni) who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Also, a very small percentage goes to paying City Panhellenic dues. City Panhellenic helps to recruit girls not only locally, but internationally as well. Dues are $40 annually, but if we all pay $50, we will be able to donate enough to the ZTA Foundation so that we may earn Crown Chapter status (and we all remember how important that was to us!)

The Alumnae Chapter is working very hard with what little we have. This past year we earned Crown Chapter recognition, the "District President's Award" at Texas Zeta Day 2005, and we were awarded the 1st ever "Best Lil' Chapter in Texas Award" at Texas Zeta Day as well. We meet one Saturday a month for alumnae meetings. They are not mandatory, but it's a chance for us to catch up with our sisters. Also, many of the meetings are kid-friendly, as many of us are moms (so don't let that discourage you from attending).

The collegiate chapter has a great group of girls. At rush this year, they successfully recruited 20 new members. This is more members than any other group on campus was able to recruit. Also, we recently learned that the girls had a 2.9 Spring GPA and a 3.05 cumulative GPA. This, too, is higher than all other Greeks on campus. These collegians are pulling their weight. I am asking you all to help as pull ours as alumnae.

We recently celebrated our 107th Founder's Day on October 15th. This was the first time ever that families were invited to the ceremony. About 60 people attended the ceremony/luncheon held at the State Line Restaurant, including mothers, fathers, and grandparents. During this event, the Alumnae Chapter raffled off "pink ribbon bags" to earn nearly $200 for the ZTA Foundation.

I know we are all busy and many of us have forgotten how important ZTA once was to us. Please help to provide future members with the same opportunities that you had as a member of ZTA. Even if you have moved out of town, you can still help preserve our chapter. Our alums supported us...now it's our turn. If you are interested in joining the El Paso Alumnae Chapter, please send your dues ($40 for the 2005-2006 academic year, or $50 to help us earn Crown Chapter again) to our Treasurer, Michelle. For information on where to send your check contact Michelle at mnjohnsons@whe.net.

Thank you for your help, Zetas!

Your Sister,

Christine Kane Urrabazo
